PEOPLE FOLLOW MORE WHAT WE DO THAN WHAT WE SAY
So… as a leader what can you DO about it?
As a boss or CEO or General Manager, you might say, sure, but I cannot do the sales calls, take care of the accounting, write marketing content, post on social media, talk to vendors, and so on and so forth… depending on your industry, and you are right!
You do have to remain detached, if that is your choice and style, to supervise and manage. Although the CEO/COO figure does exist, perhaps because of personality, capability, or the size of the operation that allows it, but it is rather unusual.
So, what CAN YOU DO, to lead by example… on key suggestion that can get you thinking…
Treat your team with kindness and understanding…
SAMPLE SCENARIO: Someone seems to be down and out and is not performing well.
Boss to Salesperson: John, you have not been performing well in the last month, you really need to start getting better results, ok?
John: Total bummer!!
Modern Leader to Salesperson: John, you have not been performing well in the last month, is everything okay? Is your family okay? etc.
John: Total inspiration!!
Think about this and the many other scenarios that come up. Keep your team inspired leading by example. Since childhood we have been following what our parents DO, more than what they SAY. When both are coherent, that is POWER!!
